Discovery in the DR of Congo of a ‘mountain of gold’ with a concentration of up to 90% of the precious metal triggers a massive gold rush.

The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo banned gold mining on a hill in Luhihi village in the eastern province of South Kivu on Wednesday.

The site was found by local farmers at the end of February. It immediately generated a real gold rush, and made dozens of people excavate the hill with instruments as simple as shovels and picks. At the beginning of March, recordings appeared online showing the enthusiasm of the improvised miners. A video from the Republic of the Congo documents the biggest surprise for some villagers in this country, as an entire mountain filled with gold was discovered!

They dig the soil inside the gold deposits and take them to their homes in order to wash the dirt& extract the gold.

As can be seen in the washing operations shown in the video, the land on the hill actually contains gold, its concentration would be between 60 and 90%.

The government of the country intervened to prohibit mining there, claiming that with the gold rush, “disorder” flourished in the town.
